Dr. Cheng is a private practicing dental surgeon by profession. He was awarded Doctor of Dental Medicine by the University of the East, Philippines in 1981 and Master of Science degree in Experimental Oral Pathology by the London Hospital Medical Collage, University of London, UK in 1986. Dr. Cheng was awarded Medal of Honors (Hong Kong) in 2010. He was also conferred with a number of honorary title from different reputable academic institutes including: a fellow of International College of Dentistry; an inaugural fellow of International College of Continuing Dental Education; a fellow of Pierre Fauchard Academy; and a fellow of Academy Dentistry International.

 

He is currently the Vice President of Hong Kong Society of Medical Professionals. He also serves as a consultant for Po Lin Monastery and Ching Chung Taoist Association. He is currently a committee member of the Health Service Advisory Committee of St. James’ Settlement, Hong Kong and served as a committee member of the School Management Committees of Kowloon Technical School, Cognitio College (Kowloon) and Cognitio College (Hong Kong).

 

Dr. Cheng was a member of the 10th and 11th of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. He was appointed as a member of Ad Hoc Appeal Committee of HKU from 2011 to 2013 by the Council of HKU. He was a council member of Hong Kong Dental Council, HKSAR and a council member of the Hong Kong Dental Association for more than 8 years. He was also elected as Chairman of Professional and Continuous Education Committee as well as Chairman of Product Endorsement Working Group of the Hong Kong Dental Association.

 

In mid-1990’s, Dr. Cheng took a leading role in a feasibility study of the geriatric dental service in Hong Kong. He subsequent became the co-founder and Chief of Service of Chi Lin Dental Clinic. This clinic was sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charity Trust with over HK$8 million in the late 1990’s.
